At Velvet Paws Retreat, I am committed to ongoing professional development so that I can provide every dog in my care with the highest standard of understanding, support and welfare-focused care.
I hold a Level 3 Qualification in Professional Daycare and Boarding with the Institute of Modern Dog Training (IMDT), a leading education provider for dog trainers and behaviourists and a Registered Learning Centre for The Open College Network. My learning does not stop there. I continue to develop my knowledge through courses and training with industry-leading figures whose work has helped shape modern understanding of canine behaviour, welfare and the relationship between dogs and the people they live with.
My continuing education includes courses and training with Jo-Rosie Haffenden at The Institute of Applied Canine Science, Steve Mann and Dave Brice from the Institute of Modern Dog Training, Simone Mueller, creator of Predation Substitute Training, and Linda Tellington-Jones and Robyn Hood through Tellington TTouch®. I am also currently studying Applied Ethology Family Dog Mediation® with the international Speaker and Author Kim Brophey.
I have also recently begun my journey in Gundog Training with Nikki Aley, owner of Pawsome Partners and founder of the Guild of Gundogs. This is helping me deepen my understanding of breed-specific behaviours, instincts and needs, particularly the importance of providing appropriate and fulfilling outlets for the behaviours dogs were bred to perform.
This breadth of learning encourages me to look beyond simply asking what a dog does and instead consider why. It helps me better understand each dog's individual needs, breed characteristics, experiences and behaviour, while also recognising the expectations, lifestyle and circumstances of the family they have joined.
By keeping up to date with current, science-informed approaches to canine behaviour, welfare and enrichment, I can tailor each dog's care to their individual needs and create a safe, stimulating and genuinely home-from-home environment.
